What is Equine Massage

Massage is a well-practised treatment that stimulates and improves circulation, helps repair tissue, eases stiffness and relieves fatigue. A regular routine of massage can help the horse to relieve stress and tension. It can also help prevent injury to the horse and improve the horse's performance.
If you notice that your horses behaviour has changed, you are well advised to act sooner rather than later. They may be suffering from a range of ailments, including joint pain, muscle strain, poor circulation or stress.
Equine massage is not a cure, but scientific evidence shows that it can help relieve symptoms of pain and discomfort, enhance their performance and their range of movement and produce relaxation. Under the requirements of The Veterinary Act 1966, you must ask for the permission of your vet before massage is applied.
What To Expect From Your Therapist
You can expect an initial consultation to last up to 2 hours as your horses symptoms are explored and the appropriate course of treatment is diagnosed. Your chosen therapist should always recommend the horse be referred back to it's vet should it's condition be outside their professional field and they should always work to the Code of Conduct.
Some horses may require a course of treatment once/twice a week whereas others may only need massage therapy once a month, it all depends on the horse, their condition and how they feel. You will know more after your initial consultation.
My sessions cost between £15 and £25 and every treatment is recorded, along with a medical history. Costs will vary between therapists so check what they charge and what their services include when you make an appointment.
